概要

Over the course of four days, we will explore Hijikata Tatsumi's method of Butoh notation as it developed from the 1970s to the period after his death in the 1980s-90s. The first three days will be workshop focussed, consisting of 3 hours per day with SU-EN and 3 hours per day with Yukio Waguri, for a maximum of 15 participants. The fourth day will be a symposium with performance-demonstrations and a Q&A with SU-EN and Yukio Waguri, discussions with Butoh researchers and practitioners, and a screening of archival footage of Hijikata's performance 'Lady on a Whale String' (choreographed by Hijikata, performed by Ashikawa Yoko) for the first time outside of Japan.
